"Of course you didn't, but then how the hell could you? You were always too damned busy to have time for anything except what you wanted. Everything else could go to hell, everything else be damned." Theodore's voice trailed off, disappearing in a sip of his drink.
Charlie felt a rush of heat flush up the back of his neck, and he took a deep breath. Let him do it, he thought to himself. Let the insufferable, pompous little ass pontificate. Let him inflate that goddamn insatiable ego of his.
"Can't we put all that behind us?" Charlie tried again.
Theodore pushed his way up and out of the confines of his overstuffed world and walked over to the window. He can't even do that like an ordinary man, Charlie thought. He has to pose, has to make a theatrical gesture out of everything.
"Why now?" Theodore asked.
Charlie's practiced grin came into play. "We're not getting any younger. Besides, what the hell are we accomplishing by dragging this thing out?"
"Know what I'm thinking, Charlie? I'm standing here thinking I've got it all. And you know why I've got it all, Charlie? I got it because I stayed here and fought for it. You know what our father left us, Charlie? I'll tell you what he left usa pathetic pile of debts
